Members Who Recently Went Home to be with the Lord

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Alice M. Wagner, 97, of 225 Poplar St. Cadott, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, in Pensacola, Fla.
She was born May 30, 1913, in the town of Hallie to Chris and Carrie Arneson. The family moved to Chippewa Falls in 1917. She attended the Chippewa Falls schools and graduated as an honor student in 1932. She attended the Teachers Training Course in Chippewa Falls. She later completed a four year teaching degree at Eau Claire State Teachers College in 1962. She taught in Chippewa County schools for 32 years. Her last teaching position was in Cadott as a 2nd grade teacher.
She was a leader in the campfire girls, sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school.
She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran church in Chippewa Falls, a member of Women of Life and a member of the Chippewa Valley Teachers Association. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, work in her flower garden, shop, bake cookies, work on sewing and craft projects. She traveled to many state and national parks. She visited London, Germany and Norway. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage, enjoyed the German culture of her huband and proud to be an American.
Alice married Theodore Wagner July 21, 1942, in Tullahoma, Tenn. After Ted’s service in World War II they moved to Cadott.
Alice is Survived by: three daughters, Cynthia Wagner of Milwaukee, Bonnie Phillips of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Janet (Wendell) Uutala of Ladysmith; two granddaughters, Sara (Karl) Fenner of Gulf Breeze and Mindy (Doug) Davis of Louisville, Ky.; and two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Sophia Fenner of Gulf Breeze; nieces and nephews; friend and neighbor Alice Gudmanson; and many friends and students.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband on Sept. 13, 1984; brother Melvin (Helen); two sisters, Ruth (Leon) Laubie and Gladys (Gene) White; and one son-in- law Maurice (Gene) Phillips.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sat. March 5 at St. John’s Lutheran church in Cadott with Rev. Mark Homp officiating. Interment was in Brooklawn Cemetery in Cadott.

Lorraine Ruth Augusta (Hader) Axness, of Chippewa Falls, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, while under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
She was born in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 29, 1927. She attended school there, graduated from Schurz High School and worked at Harris Trust and Savings Bank. In 1949, she married Burton Axness. In 1960, she and her husband moved to Chippewa Falls to raise their two daughters.
Lorraine was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed traveling, bowling and playing cribbage with her husband. She was an avid bird-watcher, enjoyed gardening and especially taking care of her many houseplants. She was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. Her love of books led her to volunteer at her church libraries. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Burton Axness of Chippewa Falls; daughter, Carol Axness of River Falls; and grandchildren, Eric Spaeth (Jessica Hofer Spaeth) and Dustin Spaeth, all of River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Hader; sister, June Kokot; and daughter, Karen Axness.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 10 at Christ Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Mark Homp officiating.
